The Albert is approximately 175 years old and has faithfully served downtown Douglas ever since as a real ‘Locals’ Pub. Mary and I (Geoff) became tenants of the Albert in July 1990 and managed to purchase the Freehold of the Pub less than two years later. We ran the place for another 9-10 years , after which ill health forced me to take a step back and appoint a Manager. Harry Creevy then took charge and retired in May 2023 after nearly 22 years, for which we are very grateful.
We have always been known for the quality of our all our beers, especially ‘real ales’ but when we took charge 33 years ago, we were tied to Okell’s for Bitter and Mild, and though they were excellent quality, it limited customer choice. After becoming a ‘Free House’, we have expanded our Cask Ale choice and now have 6 locally brewed ales at any time, including our own ‘Jough Ale’ produced just for both The Albert and Carl (our son’s) Pub, The Mitre in Ramsey. We also stock a variety of Keg Beers and lagers as well as Draught Guinness and Cider. Being a traditional Quayside Manx Local, I am a firm believer in a ‘Manx Welcome’ to all who enter.
We have enter two teams into the pool league competing against other Douglas pubs
In the larger room we have occasional ‘live’ entertainment including Karaoke and County & Western
Along with the pool table we also have a darts board
We have two rooms, both of which have TVs with live Sports.
We have two rooms, both of which have TVs with live Sports. In the larger room we have occasional ‘live’ entertainment including Karaoke and County & Western. A jukebox is also provided, Our larger room is licenced for 50 and the Bar for 25. We are open Monday to Thursday from 10am until 11pm, Friday & Saturday from 10am until Midnight and Sundays from midday until 11pm.
I have always been very aware that The Albert must keep the Traditional Pub look and each time we decorate and refurbish we keep it looking the same as before and we are very proud of both the Pub and the clientele. Now with our son Kevin in charge, we hope it continues to serve as a community ‘local’ for many more years
